My top 3 foods for glowing skin

January 5, 2018

When it comes to looking good, what you eat is just as important as what you put onto your face. The saying 'you are what you eat' has never been more true! Below are just 3 of my top foods to give you a glowing skin from within.

Green tea

Green tea has been consumed in China for many years and it is one of my go to drink! Green tea is packed with antioxidants that exhibits anti-ageing effects which can delay skin aging or its signs like expression lines and wrinkles. You can use a green tea and honey face mask for this purpose. Moisten the green tea leaves from the bag and mix with honey. Apply the pack on your face and leave it on for 20 minutes. Rinse with warm water. The antioxidants in both green tea and honey help slow down aging – while the antibacterial properties of honey cleanse the skin and improve the texture.

Tip: Green tea works wonders for treating acne, as it lowers the levels of an acne-producing hormone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Just mix a few green tea leaves with water and let it sit for around half an hour at room temperature. Then strain the liquid and store in the refrigerator and use on your skin to help clear acne.

fish and seafood

Add softness to your complexion by eating fish which is a great source of essential fatty acids like omega-3 and omega-6 - this reduces inflammation in the body. "Inflammation triggers the cells to clog the pore, causing acne," says Nicholas Perricone, a dermatologist and author of The Perricone Prescription. The fish that contain the most EFAs are salmon, mackerel, and tuna.

Tip: Buy extra fillets at the supermarket and freeze them; having salmon on hand is the best way to ensure you'll keep up your skin's nutritious regimen.

Tomatoes

Tomatoes contain Lycopene, the phytochemical that makes tomatoes red. This is the antioxidant which helps boost collagen strength and fights free-radicals. it also contains a number of other anti-oxidants that can be really helpful to ward off the signs of aging. Cooked tomatoes are far better than raw tomatoes as cooking tomatoes increases their lycopene levels, so make sure you add an extra jar of chopped tomato to your spaghetti bolognese!

Tip: tomatoes are also great at fighting acne - just mash up one tomato and apply it all over your face. Wash it off after half an hour. With regular use, you will notice a reduction in your acne.
